Poker is a game where players bet into a pot with chips, then try to make the best hand possible. In the simplest form of the game, players are dealt five cards and can choose to bet, fold, or raise.
There are several different types of poker. The two main types are draw and stud. Most games use a deck of 52 cards. A player can create a “kitty” by cutting a low denomination chip from each pot. This kitty is used to pay for new decks of cards, and it is divided among players who are still in the game.
When a player has four cards of the same rank, he or she is said to have a straight. Two pairs are also made up of four cards of the same rank. If one of the pair is a pair, it is called a “straight flush”.
If a player has two four of a kind of the same rank, they are said to have a full house. The full house consists of three aces and two 6s. Another common example is the trip sevens.
The best natural hand is a straight flush, which consists of five cards of the same suit. The best possible hand is an ace high straight flush, which is called a Royal Flush.
During the final round of betting, the poker hand that is the best at that time is revealed. Any player with a higher card than the opponent’s highest card wins.
